What is a Clubhouse?
How Oasis Clubhouse Supports Members
Joining the Community
It is common for those with experiencing mental illness to feel isolated, so Clubhouse can play a role in fostering the development of those relationships with one's community. A significant piece of the clubhouse work is Reach-Out. This ensures members who may be suffering from isolation, know their community is thinking of them, Clubhouses offer long-term support. Once a member, always a member. You don't graduate from being part of your community, and you don't graduate from the Clubhouse. We help beyond clinical treatment with maintaining stability, building relationships, and pursuing meaningful activities to create long term meaningful lives.
Participating in Programs
Clubhouses offer a wide range of activities to promote growth and wellbeing. By providing a platform to actively participate in their own recovery, it not only fosters personal growth but challenges social stigmas surrounding mental health.
Work Order Day
Oasis does this by facilitating what we call a Work-Ordered Day (WOD). The WOD is a central component of the Clubhouse Model. The WOD spans an 8 hour day, mirroring the typical business hours of a working community.
Some activities built into the WOD include clerical tasks such as data entry and tracking, newsletter preparation, social media, education, employment, or housing support, and community outreach. The WOD will also be wellness focused including tasks such as meal preparation, shopping on a budget, meal planning, and social planning. Each Clubhouse is unique in that it's WOD can develop with its membership, so skills and tasks members want to expand , can be incorporated into the WOD.
The integral component of the WOD is member participation. Members and staff work side by side as colleagues. They engage in meaningful work together that is essential for the Clubhouse creating a shared responsibility for running every aspect of the Clubhouse. The WOD fosters a sense of purpose, collaboration, and skills building, aligning with the Clubhouse model's emphasis on empowerment and inclusion.
Employment
At Oasis we believe the desire to work is all that is needed to return to paid employment. We provide various levels of support to ensure members who want to return to work in the community can do so successfully. Members can receive support by utilizing our Transitional, Supported, or independent Employment Programs.
Education
The Clubhouse supports members in their educational goals such as obtaining a GED, High School Diploma, a certificate, or Vocational Training or College courses. Oasis utilizes the knowledge and talents of its members and staff to provide in-house-tutoring or courses on various subjects.
Housing
The Clubhouse wants to ensure every member has safe and affordable housing, so we work together to connect members with housing resources and provide support in keeping that housing.
Social and Recreational Activities
During the day we are focused on the work of the Clubhouse, since we work hard, we also allot time for recreation. Oasis plans social gatherings to ensure members can further build relationships and connections within the Clubhouse community. This could be done by planning a game night, karaoke, a movie night, or any other fun activities members would like. We are open on all national holidays ensuring we can celebrate together.
